Adam Paul Steed
Role
Survivor, whistleblower, scouting abuse case
Bio Notes
Adam Paul Steed, son of Paul Steed of Pocatello, Idaho, was molested by scoutmaster Bradley Stowell at Camp Little Lemhi in 1997 along with his brother Ben and approximately two dozen boys. He became a whistleblower against the LDS Church's handling of sexual abuse in scouting, speaking publicly in Episode 1809 of Mormon Stories. His testimony documented that Elder Harold G. Hillam of the Presidency of the Seventy was connected to the scouting at the camp where Adam was abused and was deeply involved in Jodi Hildebrandt's attacks on Adam. Hillam's family attempted to stop Adam's Idaho Falls temple marriage, which Elder Groberg overrode. Adam described the institutional response as the legal megaplex in the Mormon Church knew very well who I was. He also described the institutional counter-narrative claiming they did not want to re-traumatize victims as the justification for needing the five-year statute of limitations. Band: Documented (court record, EP1809 transcript).
